What is the Compost Pilot?

The Compost Pilot Project (CPP) at UCSB is a TGIF grant funded initiative to add composting receptacles to six to twelve existing recycling clusters on campus that are adjacent to campus eateries. This student run pilot will be implemented Winter quarter 2012 and if it is successful then UCEN dining operated eateries will purchase compostable containers, cups and cutlery.


Economic Benefits:
-Reduces waste costs
-Produces an agricultural commodity for California


Environmental Benefits:
-Reduces waste sent to Tijuges landfill 
-Decrease Greenhouse Gas Emissions associated with organic waste in the landfill 
-Compost is the rich fertilizer in organic farming



UCSB is one of the first universities in the nation to begin composting campus food waste!
